The Nerja Donkey Sanctuary Needs You!

  • Do you like looking after animals?
  • Do you like meeting people?
  • Can you shovel, dig, bricklay, carpenter, do electrics, plumbing?
  • Do you have a flair for fundraising?
  • Do you enjoy producing publicity?
  • Are you a whizz at organisation and admin?
  • Do you have some spare time during the week or at the weekend?

If you can answer “Yes!” to any of the above, the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary would love to hear from you as, due to the departure of several much-valued helpers, we urgently need more volunteers to come forward to help with a wide range of tasks.

Perhaps you have a couple of hours or more that you can dedicate on a specific day of the week to help at the Sanctuary. From October to the end of April we are open to visitors from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. From May to the end of September we are open from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. AND ALSO from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. During these hours, we need people to help feed and groom the animals and clean and maintain the site. We also need people to meet and greet visitors, explaining who the animals are and why they are at the Sanctuary and encouraging visitors to “adopt” an animal. Full training is provided.

There is also a lot of daily admin. involved such as collating the visitor information sheets and animal adoption forms, ensuring that supplies are fully stocked and helping with the organisation of Sanctuary-based fundraising.

Off-site, we need volunteers to help with ongoing fundraising, for example, car boot sales, collecting tins, collecting food donations, developing links with local businesses etc. as well as with the organisation and running of specific daytime and evening fundraising events.

You do not need to commit to huge amounts of time, just a couple of hours each week would help. You do not need to live in Spain all the year round. We have several volunteers who help when they come out for a couple of weeks holiday, or when they come out for several months in the winter or summer.

Working to help these animals is extremely rewarding. It provides the opportunity to be out in the open air and is a wonderful way to keep fit! There is the added bonus of meeting new people of all ages and nationalities and having fun!

If you are interested in finding out more (without committing yourself), do come down to the Sanctuary and speak to Harriet or contact her on harriet@donkeyaid.com.

The donkeys look forward to meeting you!
