About Us
The Nerja Donkey Sanctuary is a registered charity dedicated to rescuing, caring for and protecting donkeys, mules and horses.
Since opening in June 2004 we have rescued hundreds of equines, caring for them and then moving them on to new homes where possible. Along the way we have given refuge to many other farmyard animals; countless goats, pigs, chickens, cats, turkeys and even sheep.
Our sanctuary functions as:
- A refuge for equines
- An education centre
- A tourist attraction
- A disabled riding centre
We do all of this thanks to your kind donations.
We are a fully registered non-profit Spanish Association called the Malaga Association of Donkey Sanctuaries.
We rely entirely on donations and we receive no grants or help from the government. (We are working to acheive this.)
Location
Nerja Donkey Sanctuary is located in the picturesque fishing town of Nerja (Malaga Province) on the southern coast of Spain on the Costa del Sol. Just over half an hour’s drive from Málaga and less than 10 minutes from the famous Nerja caves and the beautiful white village of Frigiliana.
How you can help us
Adopting a donkey for just 25 Euros you can adopt a donkey for a year. You will receive a certificate and regular email updates on how the donkeys are doing.
Volunteer come in and see us at the sanctuary and give us a hand.
