About us:The Nerja Donkey Sanctuary is run by volunteers dedicated to rescuing, caring for and protecting donkeys, mules and horses. We have along the way given refuge to many other animals from countless dogs to goats, pigs, chickens, cats, turkeys and many more. Nerja Donkey Sanctuary is located in the picturesque fishing town of Nerja (Malaga Province) on the southern coast of Spain on the Costa del Sol. Just over half an hours drive from Malaga and less than 10 minutes from the famous Nerja caves and the beautiful white village of Frigiliana. We are a fully registered non-profit Spanish Association called the Malaga Association of Donkey Sanctuaries. We rely entirely on donations and we receive no grants or help from the Government. We were recently featured on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and we currently have 50 rescued animals for you to visit in our sanctuary including three cute baby donkeys, a pot-bellied pig named Henrietta (who loves apples and yogurt), 14 dogs who love to go for walks, a goat called Rambo and more! So if you're looking for things to do on your holiday in Spain then look no further! How you can help us: Adopting a donkey for just 20 pounds (25 Euros) you can adopt a donkey for a year. You will receive a certificate and regular email updates on how the donkeys are doing. Volunteer come in and see us at the sanctuary and give us a hand.
